This was during the Japanese Sengoku period. According to an Italian Jesuit missionary, Yasuke's had a striking physical appearance, was over six feet tall and drew the attention of Oda Nobunaga, a powerful Japanese war lord and head of the Oda clan during that time. Yasuke was able to serve in his ranks and is likely the first and only black Samurai to
